Rose's Lime Juice is a sweetened lime juice. It was first producedin 1876 in Edinburgh, Scotland, by Lauchlin Rose, who also patented thismethod of preserving lime juice without adding alcohol.
The same year it became mandatory for all Royal Navi and British merchantships to include lime juice in the sailors' rations. That way Rose'slime juice quickly became known around the world.
Sweetened lime juice should never be used in recipes calling forfresh lime juice as it is much sweeter. It is, however, importantin drinks shuch as the Gimlet.
