Kümmel liqueur was, according to the Dutch, first distilled inHolland during the late 16th century by Erven Lucas Bols. It was thentaken to Russia, who is now the principal producer and consumer ofkümmel.
The Berlin-made Gilka Kümmel goes through a longer distillationprocess and has a smoother taste than the Russian kümmels, and it hasbecome the accepted standard of kümmel quality for the pastcentury.
